Celebrity Sighting...All in a NYC block
So, ever since I've been living in NYC, I've been waiting, just waiting, to cross the path of a big celebrity, dressed down, just chillin in NYC because they can...and it happened today!
But before I can explaing the "exciting" story, I have to make a small confession. I've recently been obsessed with the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (CTHD-for you fanatics). I'll watch this movie at least once a week, and get sucked into the emotions, and into thinking I need to learn mandarin, and knowing that I need to learn more about Chineese culture...basically, its soemthing completely new that I've been obsessed with. (For those of you that knew me in my childhood, this is comparable to the year that I spent watching Aladdin once a week, and learned every line to the movie...which I can still quote to this day...oops, overshare?) (only this time, its going to take a much fucking longer time to memorize the whole movie, because I don't know the language they're speaking).
Anywho, confession out there...I can now proceed with the story...here goes...
It all started with the cold weather this morning. I woke up and felt cold. Now usually, I feel really warm when waking up, but the weather has begun to change in NY, and its getting colder. That meant that I needed to don my trusty purple scarf from Paris. Now, this scarf always makes me feel very nice...it gives my wardrobe color, it looks cool, no matter how you wear it...basically, I love when I get to wear this thing! Incidentially (or not so much so), this Parisian purple scarf put me in a stellar mood!
I hopped on the Path train to go to work (mind you, its a saturday...but the purple scarf has got me in a mood that just won't be brought down). On the path train, there was a man that had 2 kittens in a carrying case...so cute! There was also a little chineese kid that was trying to ride the train without holding on to anything (for those of you that have ridden the path train, you know how hard this is...maybe he could do it, because his center of gravity was lower...note to self: its not so bad being short if you are trying to ride the path train without hanging on! YES! I knew being short was good for something!! But back to the story). I was reading my book, chillin, and smiling at all of these things. It was such a good happy feeling!
Getting off of the train, I took my normal route down 6th ave. When I crossed 6th and 24th, I was distracted from my happy feeling by about 20 older chineese women that were outside of a CVS (a drugstore). They were all dressed in traditional chineese clothes, in bright greens, purples, fuschas and blues, and all of them had their hair up, their faces painted white with red lipstick, and those little hats on their head. With my recent obsession with learning about Chineese culture, I didn't loose the opportunity to let my eyes wander over thier garments, their faces, their hair, and smile. It was such a neat experience.
But something told me to look over to the left...and when I did, there she was: Michelle Yeoh. Now, for those of you that don't know of her, here's a hint: She was in the James Bond Movie: Tomorrow Never Dies, as well as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (and it all makes sense now).
She was just chillin, talking on her phone, with her hand over her mouth and the mouth piece. She looked up, we locked eyes, and at that moment, that's when I knew that I recognized her. All of the sudden my facial expression changed from one with a slight smile (you know the one, when you're thinking happy thoughts in your head, and aren't aware of your outer expression) to one of a fucking deer in the headlights. My eyes grew big, my smile increased 10 fold, and I was nervous all of the sudden. Never knew that locking eyes with someone could be so intense!
All I could keep saying in my head was: "holy shit, that's michelle Yeoh! Holy shit, she's in that bond flick! Holy SHIT, she's in CTHD!!! (and, I'm obsessed).
I knew she could tell I recognized her. That must be a wierd feeling, I thought...to have someone recognize you, when you know you've never met them in your life...creepy almost.
My leggs kept moving somehow. And so my neck would have had to crane itself to keep staring...which my mind somehow communicated to me, would have been impolite. So, the gaze was broken, and I kept walking. I took one last look at the women in Chineese dress, trying to be cool. After I crossed 25th Street, I started to breathe again, trying to calm myself down.
Holy Smokes! I just saw Michelle Yeoh!
The cool part about it was that my celebrity sighting in NYC, which is bound to happen to all of us, was her! I couldn't have asked for a better one if I tried!
